Century Of Design | New York School
Influenced by the European avant-garde, the New York school and its designers were defined by a need for originality in an increasingly competitive field. Paul Rand, Saul Bass, and Bradbury Thompson were three of the most impactful designers of the New York school, who not only had a major effect on modern design in America, but also on the field of graphic design as a whole. Together, they pioneered a new and exciting style of visual communication. With the goal to create a series of material to promote the Century of Design exhibition, specifically the New York School selection, the promotional poster and informational brochures not only capture the essence of the era, but also successfully display crucial information for the event.
Goal
Create a poster and a series of brochures based on three major artists from an assigned art movement.

About The Movement
Although this movement has no specific start or end date, the movement began in the 1940s, which was a time of great change in the United States, as designers began to take a new, original American approach to modernist design. As a result of the devastation of World War II, with European talent being imported from overseas, much like Paris, New York became the epicenter for new ideas and hope.
Some of history’s best and most well known designers emerged from this period, such as Paul Rand, Saul Bass, and Bradbury Thompson. This new school of thought was defined by the designer’s need for self-expression, their drive for originality in an increasingly competitive field, and the mission to solve communication problems.
